Sonnet To The Zip Line in Battery Park

Battery Park has a playground with things 

And the greatest of all, most sublime, 

More than rope-climbing, more than the swings, 

In the youngster's view is the zip line.

I watched the zip line get installed, 

And with envy saw children's delight.

My own childhood, long gone, I recalled.

So at last, on a warm summer night I tried out the zip line myself. 

And what fun!

Zooming just above earth, even though 

The seat was a wee bit too small, 

And the line itself was a bit low.

I said to my age group, "Come see." 

They'd been zip-lining long before me!
