Ship playground construction planned for Fall 2026

After two years of fundraising, ONCOR is delighted to confirm plans that the new ship playground (Battery Park Phase 2) will be installed in Fall 2026!

What changes are coming?

Phase 2 has long been planned as a natural extension of Phase 1 -- all of the existing playground structures currently in Battery Park will remain. We will be adding new structures to fill in the large open spaces currently within the existing dimensions of the playground area. Those structures include:

• A large ship, complete with wheelchair accessible ramp and ship deck overlooking Battery Park
• The ship includes large and small slides, multi-sensory engagements, a variety of climbing structures, and monkey bars(!)
• A universal carousel -- perfect for kids of all abilities to spin around together

What about the playground surface?

• New rubberized and cork surface will replace majority of mulch -- major improvement for accessibility
• The plan also calls for a proper drainage system to be installed beneath the surface
• We are also straightening the borders and replacing the rubber walls with cement
• Safety fence -- we are still fundraising for the addition of a safety fence around the playground

How can I help?

• Volunteer -- we will enlist volunteer labor to keep costs down during construction
• Donate -- ONCOR will continue to raise funds for the safety fence and long term upkeep of this playground
• Come play! It means so much to our community to see families enjoying the playground in Battery Park.
