Enhancing Outdoor Play in New Castle

The Old New Castle Outdoor Recreation Coalition (ONCOR) was founded in 2021 to create great outdoor recreation experiences for New Castle families.  

Our first project, Phase 1 of the Battery Park Playground (with the only playground zipline in Delaware!) was completed in October 2023.

Phase 2 of the Battery Park Playground will bring a fully accessible playground to our town, allowing children of all abilities to play together.  It will include a tall ship theme, slides, and wheelchair-friendly surfaces.  You can visit oncorcoalition.org to learn more.

Support Our Next Phase

Thanks to generous grants from foundations and local sponsors awarded by the Longwood Foundation, Welfare Foundation, ChristianaCare, National Park Service, Norfolk Southern, Tri-Community Partners, the FY25 Delaware State Bond Bill, and the City of New Castle, ONCOR has raised $775K of the $1.2M budget to build this magical playground.

Join the Effort

To raise the remaining funds, ONCOR needs your support.  The Weekly will feature different pieces of playground equipment that you can sponsor individually or join with others to sponsor. Businesses and local groups are also invited to sponsor.  All sponsors will be added to the playground sponsor wall for the community to see!
